IChemE Chief Executive Jon Prichard encourages members to engage in the upcoming elections
PROFESSIONAL bodies, such as IChemE, fundamentally rely upon members who volunteer to support their profession, whether this is in setting standards or promoting good practice. By selflessly providing their knowledge and expertise both individually and collectively through committees and groups, our members shape how IChemE delivers value to society and the wider membership.
As we start another calendar year, one that marks 100 years since the founding of the Institution, IChemE is once again seeking nominations from the membership for vacant positions on the Board of Trustees and Congress to help guide the delivery of the many programmes within our 2022 business plan.
The Board of Trustees is the Institution’s governing body and therefore members elected to the Board are responsible for setting its strategic direction. Congress assists the Board of Trustees by providing the trustees with a wider perspective. It consists of two electoral colleges: one that elects on a geographical basis (Regional College) and one that reflects the spectrum of membership grades (Functional College).
Our President, Jane Cutler, is an advocate of volunteering, and I would like to reiterate the observation that she highlighted in her Presidential Address, where she said, “this is an Institution for all”, with “technology enabling members to enjoy and contribute to the opportunities now, more easily than ever”. I would therefore like to encourage members to consider standing for election for these key bodies. Alternatively, you could consider supporting another suitably-qualified colleague or friend as they choose to stand.
Some of the roles require members to have specific skills and experience or to have reached a certain membership grade, therefore please do read carefully the requirements detailed further down this article before submitting your nominations. The following roles are open for nominations:
BOARD OF TRUSTEES
CONGRESS REGIONAL COLLEGE
FUNCTIONAL COLLEGE
Role profiles for all vacant positions, detailing what they entail, will be available on IChemE’s website on 31 January at www.icheme.org/elections.
Nominations should be submitted via a web-based platform hosted by election services provider Mi-Voice. Details will be shared with all members who meet the eligibility criteria to stand for each role through the official call for nominations on 31 January.
