DAVID SHALLCROSS has been awarded the Chemeca Medal for his contributions to the chemical engineering profession (Pictured above receiving his medal from Andrea Hosey, chair of the awards committee).
Shallcross, who is professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Melbourne, was awarded the medal at the annual Chemeca conference. The medal recognises a prominent Australian or New Zealand chemical engineer who has made an outstanding contribution, through achievement or service, to the practice of chemical engineering in its widest sense, and who continues to serve the profession.
Shallcross has served as vice-president of IChemE, was founding editor-in-chief of the journal Education for Chemical Engineers, wand has won several awards for his contributions to engineering education.
Reacting to the news, Shallcross said: “I feel honoured as the most special awards are those from your peers, and I am humbled as I have known a number of the previous recipients, and these are people who I respect absolutely.”
Chemeca is the annual conference for the Australian and New Zealand community of chemical and process engineers and industrial chemists. This year’s Chemeca conference was hosted in Gold Coast, Australia from 29 September to 1 October.
