EWAN STEWART, the new chair of the Australian and New Zealand Federation of Chemical Engineers (ANZFChE), has pledged to use his position to promote the mutual growth of STEM in the region.
Stewart, who is the chair of IChemE’s board in Australia and senior process engineer for the energy engineering company Kent, became chair of ANZFChE in December.
“I believe that as a community of chemical engineers, collaboration of IChemE with similar institutions makes us all stronger. Through ANZFChE we have a valuable relationship with both the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand. I intend to build upon this and seek further opportunities for mutual growth,” Stewart said.
ANZFChE, which was formed in 1997, counts IChemE as one of its five joint member organisations alongside the industrial division of RACI and IPENZ. One of the main activities of the Federation is to provide oversight of the annual Chemeca conference.
“Chemeca brings together chemical engineers and industrial chemists from across the region, giving them the platform to share knowledge and discuss important topics that will advance the profession and benefit society,” said Stewart.
Stewart has worked as a process engineer for multinational firms in Australia, Abu Dhabi, and the UK following his graduation from University of Strathclyde in 2007.
“I have attended Chemeca for the last three years, and it really is the highlight of the Australasian chemical engineering calendar. It’s a vibrant and uplifting event, a window into the future, and an opportunity to catch up with friends, old and new. As ANZFChe chair, I want to ensure that Chemeca continues for years to come.”
This year’s Chemeca conference is being held in Adelaide, Australia from 28– 30 September.
