AT least six people have been killed and “several” injured in an oxygen plant explosion in south-eastern Bangladesh, Reuters reports

The incident occurred at a site in Sitakunda, 40 km from the south-eastern port city of Chittagong. When the incident occurred has not been stated.

A fire service official said that the cause of the explosion was not immediately clear, Reuters adds.

In June 2022, a chemical explosion at a container depot in the same town killed at least 41 people and injured “hundreds” of others. Press highlighted that the incident was another in a series reflecting the country’s poor industrial safety record.
