CLAIRE ADJIMAN and Jonathan Seville are among the 17
individual recipients of IChemE’s 2026 medals and prizes. Imperial College London’s Adjiman received the Sharma Medal, awarded annually to recognise significant contributions made to chemical engineering research over a career. Described as an “esteemed chemical engineer”, Adjiman was rewarded for her longstanding work in molecular systems engineering. The committee added that her career has established the field as a “globally recognised field of study”.
University of Birmingham professor Seville won the Davidson Medal, which recognises active mentors in industry or academia. The committee commended Seville’s “lifelong commitment to excellence in mentoring”, adding that he has demonstrated “long-term dedication to mentoring younger generations of chemical engineers, with many of his mentees going on to become leaders and mentors in their own right”.
The Institution also announced winners for six team medals. Among them, recent graduates Glen McClea and Campbell Tiffin received the Hanson Medal for the best article published in The Chemical Engineer, for their piece on developing successful undergraduate design projects.
Mark Simmons, chair of the IChemE medals and prize committee, said: “In an ever-changing world, chemical engineers are constantly breaking through barriers in the pursuit of innovation andA positive impact, and this was evident in the impressive breadth and scope of the nominations, particularly as we seek to engineer a more sustainable world. We should be rightly proud of the world-leading examples of research, teaching and thought leadership, as well as outstanding volunteer service, evident in the nominations received.”
Rafaella Ocone, IChemE president, gave her “most sincere congratulations” to the winners. “You are raising the bar for our profession and inspiring others to aim higher.”
Medals will be presented to winners at this year’s conferring ceremony in Glasgow on 26-27 May.
