Nominations open for 2026 Danckwerts lecture

Article by Aniqah Majid

A LEADING chemical engineer is sought to deliver the next Danckwerts lecture, held this year in conjunction with the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) annual meeting in Minneapolis, US.

Co-sponsored by IChemE, AIChE and the journal Chemical Engineering Science, the lecture celebrates scholars who have made “very strong contributions to research” in chemical engineering.

The event was established in 1985 in honour of Peter V Danckwerts, a chemical engineer and past IChemE president who served as executive editor of Chemical Engineering Science.

Leading engineers

Last year’s Danckwerts lecture was delivered by Claire Adjiman, professor of chemical engineering at Imperial College London. Her research focuses on multiscale process and molecular/materials design, with applications in oil and gas, pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals.

At the European Congress of Chemical Engineering (ECCE) in Lisbon, Adjiman presented her work on computational modelling to develop efficient and sustainable solvents.

Nominations

The lecture alternates between Europe and the US: in Europe at ECCE on odd years and with AIChE on even years.

Though a theme is not specified, the lecture must be appropriate for the aims and scope of Chemical Engineering Science, which covers “the science of chemical engineering”, including catalysis, green and sustainable engineering, environmental and novel materials.

Anyone may nominate a candidate, though self-nominations are not allowed. The deadline is 30 January, after which a judging panel will review submissions and announce the winner in Q2.

Further details and the nomination form can be found on the IChemE website
