ICHEME engaged with more than 1,300 international students at the Study Melbourne International Student Careers Fair, held at State Library Victoria in March.
Now in its third year, the event brings together students, employers and professional bodies across sectors including engineering, education, finance and transport. It forms part of the Victorian government’s efforts to improve post-study employment pathways and strengthen links between graduates and industry.
IChemE representatives spoke with students about career opportunities in chemical engineering, as well as professional development and routes into industry. The event also provided an opportunity to highlight how the Institution supports employability and industry engagement through its programmes and networks.
Fiona O'Connor, regional development and engagement executive – Australia, said the fair provided “a valuable opportunity to engage with passionate students who are shaping the future of chemical engineering and, with partners, to develop the talent needed for successful careers".
The event also featured an address from Danny Pearson, minister for economic growth and jobs, who highlighted the contribution international students make to Victoria’s workforce through their skills, diversity and multilingual capabilities.
IChemE said it was pleased to support the initiative as part of its wider work to promote career development and strengthen the future engineering workforce.
