IChemE’s Presidential team urges you to inspire the next generation of chemical engineers

THROUGHOUT this centenary year we have been celebrating our profession and those members who have shaped it. From the chemical engineers over the last 100 years whose pioneering work has made a real difference to society, to our volunteers, past and present, whose contributions have made IChemE what it is today.

The central theme for the ChemEng Evolution centenary was “celebrate, communicate, inspire”, and as part of our “inspire” thread we wanted to capture some of that personal inspiration from the past. So, we asked IChemE’s Past Presidents to identify the chemical engineer who inspired them most. Reading through their nominations on the ChemEng Evolution website has been fascinating, as every one of them made a huge contribution to the profession, and inspired a future chemical engineer who went on to become President of their Institution.

The ability to deliver such a bold undertaking as advancing chemical engineering for the benefit of society relies heavily on our community of volunteers across IChemE
