IChemE opens for entries to its 30th Global Awards

Article by Amanda Jasi

ENTRIES have opened for IChemE’s Global Awards, which feature three new categories for 2024.

Now marking its 30th year of celebrating outstanding professional achievement, the Global Awards are widely recognised as the world’s most prestigious chemical engineering awards and cover the breadth of the chemical and process industries. Championing talent and innovation by people, projects, and organisations across all sectors, the Global Awards receive a diverse array of entries; small teams and multinational organisations were both well-represented among the 2023 finalists and winners.

Among the new categories added is the Biopharma Award which will recognise the top project, process, or product demonstrating excellence in the application of biochemical and/or pharmaceutical engineering. The Renewable Energy Award will be awarded for excellence in the development and use of renewable energy generation and storage in the chemical and process industries. Meanwhile, the best process innovation originating from the chemical and process industries implemented during the last four years will receive the Innovative Process Award.

Entries are evaluated by a judging panel of senior IChemE members and industry experts, with the judging criteria highly rating societal benefit, sustainability, and environmental impact, along with engineering and professional excellence.

The best entry across all categories will additionally receive the coveted top prize, the Outstanding Achievement in Chemical and Process Engineering Award.

IChemE Fellow Jamie Cleaver, chair of the judging panel, said: “I’m honoured and excited to be heading up the judging panel for the Global Awards. It’s a unique privilege to be part of the team recognising and promoting chemical engineering excellence. The entry process is straightforward, and selection as a finalist really puts your successes under the spotlight, so I’d encourage everyone to help us applaud the innovative work of our incredibly talented profession.”

IChemE president Nigel Hirst commented: “I was very encouraged by how many of 2023’s finalists were helping to make IChemE’s vision – engineering a sustainable world – a reality, with entries such as accelerating the adoption of green hydrogen, reinventing the way plastics are used and recycled, and developing energy-efficient ship hull coatings. The IChemE Global Awards is a great opportunity to share quality time with your colleagues as well as expand your professional network – it’s always a night to remember.”

The deadline to enter the IChemE Global Awards is 5 July 2024 and entry is free for both members and non-members. Winners will be announced at the IChemE Global Awards Dinner on 28 November at the Mercure Manchester Piccadilly Hotel, UK. For more information and to enter visit the Global Awards webpage.
