UK ACTOR and comedian Chris Barrie is set to host the 2017 IChemE Global Awards on 2 November, the second time he will do so.

Barrie was a hugely popular host for the 2008 IChemE Awards. He is best known for playing Arnold Rimmer in UK sci-fi comedy television show Red Dwarf, of which the twelfth season will be broadcast later this year. Barrie is also known as incompetent leisure centre manager Mr Brittas in sitcom The Brittas Empire and played Lara Croft’s butler Hillary in the Tomb Raider films.

This year’s Awards ceremony will be held at Birmingham’s Hilton Metropole Hotel, the venue for the 2015 ceremony. Around 400 guests are expected to attend the event, which will see 16 awards presented to teams, projects, companies and individuals, covering many areas including water, food and drink, process safety and oil and gas. The overall winner from all categories will be presented with the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Chemical and Process Engineering.

Entries for the 2017 IChemE Awards ceremony closed on 14 July. Finalists will be announced on 4 September. Visit the IChemE Awards webpage for more information.
