TOTAL has changed its name to TotalEnergies, to reflect its transformation from an oil and gas major to an energy company that includes more sustainable fuels.
The rebranding was backed by 99.88% of votes at a shareholder meeting on 28 May and came into effect immediately. TotalEnergies describes itself a “broad energy company” that produces and markets oil and biofuels, natural gas and green gases, renewables and electricity.
Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of TotalEnergies, said: “Our ambition is to be a world-class player in the energy transition. That is why Total is transforming and becoming TotalEnergies.”
TotalEnergies set a net zero target last year, and the strategy and objectives were released in September 2020 and February 2021. Shareholders voted by 91.88% at the meeting to adopt the climate strategy.
Closing the shareholders’ meeting, Pouyanné said: “I would like to thank our shareholders for their almost unanimous support on our new name, TotalEnergies, that anchors our strategy in our identity, as well as for their support by a very large majority, more than 90%, on the resolution on the company’s ambition with respect to sustainable development and energy transition towards carbon neutrality and its related targets by 2030.”
