SAUDI ARABIA’s state-owned oil firm Aramco has appointed Wood to deliver engineering works of several gas facilities that will take “one million engineering hours” to execute.

Wood will provide project management consultancy (PMC) services, including Pre-FEED and FEED engineering for large scale onshore gas production and processing facilities in eastern Saudi Arabia. The scope also includes engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracting support for future phases.

More than 400 workers are expected to be employed across seven years for the project, specifically from Al-Khobar in Saudi Arabia, Reading in the UK and Chennai in India.

Craig Shanaghey, Wood’s executive president of projects, said: “The Southern and Northern Areas gas increments will meet growing energy and efficiency demands across the globe.”

Aramco, which is the world’s largest oil producer, is investing extensively to diversify into gas production for both energy and to feed the downstream industries it is developing. In June, it awarded contracts worth US$25bn to expand gas production.
