Continue your CPD virtually with IChemE

ICHEME has accelerated plans to offer many of its most popular training courses virtually in response to the outbreak of Covid-19. For those isolated at home, now might be an opportune time to boost skills and knowledge.

From May, we will be offering an expanded range of courses online. Confirmed courses include Fundamentals of Process Safety, HAZOP Leadership and Management, Layer of Protection Analysis, Engineering Project Management, and What Engineers Need to Know About Contracts.

Courses will comprise live sessions with trainers, supplemented by independent study and pre-recorded content. IChemE members will benefit from reduced rates, as will employers booking multiple places on courses. All courses will also be available for in-company virtual delivery.

IChemE already offers a library of low-cost on-demand training modules which can be downloaded at a time and location to suit the user. Topics include: Consequence Modelling Techniques, Effective Communication, Human Factors in Health & Safety, Management of Change and Runaway Reactions.

In addition, the IChemE Safety Centre will be running live weekly case study training sessions throughout May. Starting with Lift Off – Exploring Decision Making, the interactive case studies allow attendees to make crucial safety decisions using past incidents as case studies and learn how their decisions impact the incident.

Of course, the Institution’s conference programme has also been impacted. Our annual Hazards process safety conference has been postponed until later in the year. Hazards 30 will now take place on 30 November–2 December 2020 in Manchester, UK. For more details visit www.icheme.org/hazards30.

Elsewhere, IChemE’s 2020 International Conference on Sustainable Production and Consumption has been cancelled. Chemeca 2020, which was due to take place in Brisbane, Australia in September, has been delayed to 2021.

Plans for the IChemE Global Awards 2020 remain unchanged. The deadline to submit entries is Friday 26 June with finalists announced in September. Winners will be announced at the IChemE Global Awards Dinner on 12 November in Manchester.  National awards in Malaysia are also set to proceed as normal. Visit www.icheme.org/awards for more details.
