IChemE’s SPC journal sees big jump in rankings

ICHEME’s Sustainable Production and Consumption (SPC) journal has jumped up the rankings in two different categories and seen a large percentage increase in its Impact Factor. Other IChemE journals have also seen their Impact Factor rise. 

An Impact Factor provides a quantitative measurement of a journal in relation to its competitors. The score is calculated via the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) using the number of citations to a journal in the most recent year, as well as the count of articles and reviews published in the journal in the prior two years. 

Published in partnership with Elsevier, SPC received an Impact Factor of 8.921, a 77% increase from its 2021 score of 5.032. The journal is ranked as 10 out of 127 in the Environmental Studies category, and 12 out of 47 journals in the Green & Sustainable Science & Technology category. 

The journal publishes interdisciplinary papers that discuss the production and use of products and services in a manner that is socially beneficial, economically viable and environmentally benign over their whole life cycle. 

All other IChemE journals that have an Impact Factor also saw a rise from their 2021 scores. This includes Process Safety and Environmental Protection (PSEP) which saw a rise of 29% from 6.158 to 7.926, and Food and Bioproducts Processing (FBP) that increased by 14% to 5.105 – up from 4.481.  

Chemical Engineering Research and Design (ChERD) received an Impact Factor of 4.119, a 10% increase from 3.739; meanwhile Education for Chemical Engineers (ECE) jumped 37% from 2.33 to 3.2. 

IChemE’s two newest journals, Digitalisation for Chemical Engineers (DCE) and Carbon Capture, Science and Technology (CCST) will be reviewed for Impact Factors once they are fully established.

Given the highly competitive nature of academic publishing, this is a recognition of the outstanding quality of papers…that contribute to the state-of-the-art research and practice in such an important field.
